I hate everything about it. Got my longtube ebay header, resonator, and my “custom” catback on the Miata. Sounds great, nice and quiet, until “can o bees” happens at 5000 rpm or so. Annoying, and I think the fault of the resonator.
Muffler from a 2000 Buick LeSabre welded to the stock catback piping.
Shiny things underhood. Also dirty.
An example of how poor the fitment was. Keep in mind this was $120 shipped on eBay so I kinda dug myself this hole, though the cheapest “brand name” header was $300+. Fucking Miata parts. I had to cutoff-wheel the hell out of the manifold to make it fit on the studs. Cut the outermost holes into a half-moon so they are still being clamped down. Worked great, though the manifold itself rubs against the exhaust tunnel because it isn’t routed *quite* right. Replaced the o2 sensor with a new generic one, replaced the garbage fuel filter with a new unit, and pieced it all back together.
Another look at the muffler. Welded it together then wrapped it in HVAC tape to seal up any leaks until I can weld it proper. The rope is holding up the muffler and pulling it to the passenger side to keep the pipe off the diff (again, fitment).
Video coming later, probably tomorrow.

also that manifold is barely welded wouldn’t be surprised if it’s leaking

I’ve had exhaust issues on the murano. the flange between the tailpipe and the muffler rusted through and the rear muffler fell off. Since there is 2 mufflers it wasnt too obnoxious, so I drove it until I could take it to a shop in a couple days. Well, there was less airflow under there than I thought and the exhaust caught in my rear bumper and melted my taillight. Isodumb. So it’s been off the road for a couple weeks to get a new muffler and tail light. sigh. Getting a new flange welded on tomorrow. hooray rockauto!

Based on what I see here, just for looks alone, I think I’ll take a pass on any el cheapo ebay crap. And I’m saying this as someone who is gonna need a new cat-back exhaust for my car within the next 12 months.
Thanks for helping to decide whether to go cheap or not.

$120? Geez. Mine cost 8x that much and STILL has fitment issues.

If it’s stupid and it works, it isn’t stupid.

You usually get what you pay for with Miata parts. I stay away from off-brand Chinese-made eBay items due to quality issues. Unfortunately, nothing can really stop the 1.6L bee buzzing except for turbos and 1.8L engine swaps.

Pricey parts suck, but you probably should have just taken the plunge. Now you’ll be out $450 if this header fails instead of just $300.
You could have also just gotten another stocker from a junkyard for probably less than even that cheap one, but that won’t give you too many gains.

Look at that chip though...I wanna say he won’t have anymore header problems but I won’t be surprised if this one starts leaking too a few months from now.

I know, I bought some eBay headers for my MKIII Supra 2JZ swap, and they had to be cut and modified a bit, but they worked, and they worked well.

ebay header more than likely. Miata stock headers really are about the best you can get without spending crazy money. They got it right in the factory.
Also about 5k (a little earlier for my 1.8l) you are getting on the came. ie actually making power (as much as a miata can) thats why the sound is different

It’s welded all the way around on the inside. Most tube headers are done like that unless you’re paying enough they want it to look pretty.

None of what you see in that picture is ebay stuff. It doesn’t mate up because I’m using a Buick muffler

What about them? Had to do it for it to fit. It already leaks; there was a hole in one of the welds but I give no fucks because this garbage is ALL getting replaced as soon as I find a decent condition stock catback and manifold locally
